Q. How do I block spammers?
A. We have several plug-ins to help block spammers. The spam plug-ins are listed in the Plug-In Category. The plug-ins are not installed on your local computer-they are installed on your blog. Any anti-spam programs on yoru computer will not prevent spam on your blogs.

The #1 way to prevent spam is to not allow comments to be made on your blog (the default setup). Of course for most of you, comments need to be enabled. If enabled, we have a variety of anti-spam plug-ins.

The AUTHIMAGE Plug-In requires posters to enter a code before they can post a comment. This plug-in for sure should be activated. It will eliminate 85% of spam.

AKISMET is a service that checks postings to see if they match known spam. If the posting appears to be spam, they don't allow it to be posted on your site.
The DNSANTISPAM Plug-in checks to see if an IP address or domain name is listed on a spam list. If so, the person cannot post to your site. We recommend that you also activate this plug-in.

If you know the IP address of the spammer, you can block their IP address from even accessing your website using the HOSTBLOCK plug in.

To get the IP address of someone who has spammed yoru site, go the admin panel to their post/comment. It will show their IP address.

1. Log into Admin Panel
2. You will see what comments have been made on your blog. Make note what post the comment was made in. (The name of the post will be under 'In').
3. Click on your blog name in Dashboard.
4. Click on the Posts link and find the post that has the comment. It will be in the 'CM' column.
5. Click on the 'CM' link for that post. This will open up the comment section.
6. Make note of their IP address and you can enter it in the spam blocker plug-ins.

Be aware that some IP addresses are what is called static IP addresses, so more than one person could have the same IP address. Also, spammers change their IP address on a regular basis.
